The Curious Case of the Pollock Sisters
Many people around the world believe in reincarnation. This is a belief taught by many religions that when we die, we receive a new life, in a new form. There have been many people claiming that this exists. Without proof, it is unclear what happens when we die. That is until you meet the Pollock Sisters.
In Hexham, England, on May 5th, 1957, while on their way to church with a friend, Joanna (11) and Jacqueline Pollock (6) were struck down by a car, all three children were killed. The investigators soon learned that the driver, a woman who had been under the influence of several drugs had purposely struck the children down because she had lost custody of her own.
The Pollock's were devastated. The couple, John and Florence, wanted nothing more than to have their children back. John especially was convinced that the couple would have another set of girls. That it would be Joanna and Jacqueline. Others were skeptical of this. However, only a year later, and Florence was giving birth to twin girls. They named these girls Gillian and Jennifer.
Even though Florence was skeptical during her pregnancy, after seeing the girls she had to admit it was possible. Not only did the girls look like their deceased sisters, but they also shared some physical attributes. For instance, Jennifer had a very thin white line on her forehead, in the exact same spot that Jaqueline had a scar, and she had the exact same birthmark too.
When the twins were only 3 months old the family moved to Whitley Bay. When the girls were two they began to ask their parents for their old toys. When their parents asked for what old toys, the girls began describing toys that had belonged to their deceased sisters.
It wasn't until the girls were 4 years old and speaking did they return to Hexham. It wasn't long before the girls were pointing out landmarks, that they wouldn't have remembered. These landmarks included the school where Joanna and Jaqueline attended as well as a playground that the girls frequented often. The twins also had a strange fear of cars. And had reoccurring nightmares about being run over. On one occasion they have even shouted saying: "The car is coming to get us!"
The girls seemed to know every detail about how their sisters had died. Gillian once said to Jennifer "The blood's coming out of your eyes. That's where the car hit you." And on another occasion, she said: "That is the mark Jennifer got when she fell in a bucket." (It was really Jacqueline who fell on a bucket).
These girls had a strange connection with their dead sisters, they enjoyed the same foods, had the same taste in clothes, knew the school the girls attended, were familiar with old friends of their sisters, they sang the same songs. The parents really started to believe that Jennifer was Jaqueline and Gillian was Joanna. Jennifer was even more dependent on Gillian because Joanna had been older.
This lasted until the girls were five, and then quite suddenly there were no memories whatsoever. However, at one point Gillian did recall experiencing visions of her playing in the sand at a home in Whickham. Even though she had never been there, Gillian described the house in perfect detail, as well as the garden. Gillian described a house in which Joanna once lived with her parents when she was four years old.
While the case has been deemed proof of reincarnation, it could be a matter of grief stiction parents hoping for the impossible. The girls themselves could have been influenced by their older brothers. Even though the parents never mentioned their sisters until they were older, their brothers could have. But, that would be highly unlikely.
