More Terrifying Dolls
5. Annabelle
Brought to our attention by a series of movies that are based on true events, Annabelle is a name that is very popular now. Unlike her movie counterpart, Annabelle is a simple, innocent-looking Raggedy Ann doll. However, don't let that fool you because Annabelle is also pure evil.
A student nurse was given the doll in the 1970s, and from the moment they brought her into the house they claimed that the doll began to act very oddly. It wasn't until a psychic told them that the doll was actually inhabited by the spirit of a little girl, named Annabelle did they start to believe the events that were surrounding them. On the advice of the psychic, the student and her roommate tried their best to accept and nurture this possessed doll. Only, the doll was doing some really disturbing, malicious, and very frightening things.
So, the student and her friend desperate for peace contacted the Warrens for help. The Warrens soon realized that either the psychic wasn't very good, or for some reason, she lied. The doll wasn't possessed by the spirit of a little girl at all, but by a very demonic force! The Warrens moved the doll into their museum, where she remains to this very day, locked away in a wooden box with a glass front.
Despite the differences in physical appearance, there are some similarities between the real and movie counterpart. For instance, there really is a sign telling people not to open under any circumstance. And there really is a tarot card of the devil stuck to the front of the case, but that's where the similarities end.
When you visit Warren's museum, they play eerie church music as you approach Annabelle. This only adds to the unpleasant feelings you may get standing next to her. A few decades back, a visitor ignored the warnings and banged on the doll's box. Ironically, he died in a motorcycle crash a short time after that. However, it wasn't a coincidence because a priest also disrespected the doll, by throwing it across the room and declaring that God was more powerful than the Devil. On that very day, he got into an accident with a tractor-trailer.
What you might not know or realize is that prayers are regularly done in the room that Annabelle is kept, this is to keep her at bay. Lorraine also did not like to look at the doll for too long, she claimed this was because it had done a lot of harm to a lot of people. They even told their daughter Judy, not to look the doll in the eyes or pay it any attention at all for that matter. Lorraine has said many times that the doll, is like a conduit. The evil within the doll is looking for a body it can go into. Even Judy's husband has said that if there is one thing in the Warren collection he fears above all else, it's Annabelle.
There have been many people interested in Annabelle over the years. One such private collector even went as far as offering them a million dollars for the doll, but of course, Annabelle is NOT for sale, and it is unlikely she ever will be. The family is determined to keep her far from the public realm.
The movie series, the Annabelle movies, and The Conjuring movies are based on real paranormal cases that Lorraine and Ed Warren worked on in their time as investigators. One of the cases that the Warrens are famous for is their connection to the Amityville house.
4. Peggy
Peggy indeed looks pretty normal compared to some of the other dolls we've seen. What with her blue eyes and blonde bob. But she has the potential to make you sick. (which is why I haven't included a picture, trust me I tried) The doll has been reported to cause nausea, dizziness, headaches, and perhaps even heart attacks, from just looking at her photo. (As I was writing this I started getting a tremendous headache, I removed the photo and the headache went away. I will not be putting it back up) Can you imagine what she can do in person?
Peggy was owned by a British investigator named, Jayne Harris. She acquired the doll from a family who claimed she gave bad dreams. There have been psychics who claim the doll is inhabited by the spirit of someone who may have been prosecuted in their life. There is also a possibility that the spirit is tied to the Holocaust. Although Jayne doesn't think that is the case. She believes that Peggy is the spirit of a woman from 1946 who died of a chest illness.
Peggy is now owned by Zak Bagans who displays her in his Haunted Museum.
3. Harold
Harold is believed to be one of the first Haunted Dolls to be sold on eBay. This had earned the doll media coverage and his own segment on Ghost Adventures.
They say that Harold was first owned by a young boy who passed away in the 1940s. Shortly after the child passed away, his parents heard crying and singing from his bedroom. The doll was examined by a priest, and he told the parents to burn the doll, only the doll would not burn. Instead, the grieving parents locked it away in a woodshed for over 60 years!
The doll was put up on eBay by a man blaming all his hardships on the doll, and it grabbed everyone's attention. The doll sold for $300 but it keeps getting passed around. The doll is said to cause misfortune, make noises, and occasionally its mouth shifts into a smile.
Anthony Quinata who had purchased the doll in 2004 believes that there are souls that are trapped in and by the doll. He wrote a book on his experiences with the doll including details of attacks.
2. Pulau Ubin Haunted Doll
It was 1914, and in the middle of World War I, a German couple that was believed to be spies were arrested. Only, their daughter got away running blindly. Which unfortunately for her meant running off a steep cliff and plummeting to her death.
The natives of Pulau Ubin felt bad about the girl's death and so they constructed a reliquary. It consisted of a porcelain altar and a Barbie doll that holds her crucifix. The doll is rumored to hold the child's spirit. Though it is haunted unlike her counterparts on this blog, this particular doll is the opposite. She is benevolent and protects them from misfortune. Because of this, a festival is held every year where offerings are made to the doll.
1. Okiku
So, apparently in 1918, Eikichi Suzuki bought a doll for his younger sister. His sister loved the doll so much, that you have never seen them apart. The doll which was 40cm tall, and wearing a classic Kimono was intriguing. Even its black hair was trimmed in true and traditional Okappa style. They say that her eyes were magical, and one glance and you were mesmerized. Eikichi Suzuki's sister even went as far as to name the doll after herself. However, after a couple of years, the younger sister had passed away and the family was devastated. It wasn't long before the family was under the impression that young Okiku was inside the doll. The doll seemed to move about the house, all on its own. However, the one thing that really freaked them out above all, was that after Okiku passed, the doll's hair appeared to grow all on its own.
