Wolastoq Park Haunting

If you visit Wolastoq Park in the broad daylight you would probably never know its dark and paranormal past. Venture into the park at night, however, and you might be regretting your choice. Because this park is one of the most haunted spots in New Brunswick.

Wolastoq means "the beautiful river" in the Maliseet language. It was built in 2004 by J.D Irving Limited and they maintain the park as well. The park features a collection of statues that depict historical figures from Saint John, but they aren't the ghosts that roam this patch of land.

Long before there was a park, these were the grounds of the Provincial Lunatic Asylum, otherwise known as Centracare. The building was demolished in 1999, and some of the rubble was used to fill in the basement.

The site overlooks the Reversing Falls, a series of rapids on the Saint John River that makes the flow reverse against the current. However, this park is very unique and paranormal. For one thing, when you are in the Park, none of your electronics will work properly. You may also see strange lights, hear disembodied voices, and see a mysterious mist approaching. There are reports of people feeling like they are being watched, and there have been shadow figures reported.

In 1991, a security guard was making his rounds on the then operational grounds. It was late at night as he passed the churchyard when suddenly he heard what sounded like a baby crying. Confused, the security guard searched all over for this sound. He was so freaked out by it that he even called the front desk about what he had heard.

However, whoever was working the front desk told the man that there hadn't been a baby on the site since 1937. However, they also informed him that hearing cries like that on the grounds wasn't uncommon and that he wasn't the only one to hear it in the dead of the night.

Here is a video of Wolastoq Park.
