Haunted Inns and Hotels in Connecticut
Traveling through Connecticut and looking for a haunted place to stay? Here is some that we found!
Captain Grant’s Inn- Preston
Said to be built in 1754. A place where soldiers in the
Revolutionary War would go to eat, and where slaves were housed during the
Civil War. The inns most haunted room has been said to be The Adelaide Room
where a woman dressed in Colonial-era clothing, holding hands with two
children’s hands have been seen. The tv has been known to work on its own and
the shower curtain has been knocked over. There is a book about the spirits
that haunt here called “The Ghosts of Captain Grant’s Inn.
Saybrook Inn and Spa- Saybrook
This particular inn doesn’t have many spirits that haunt it.
However, there is one that has been known to haunt weddings. There is a strong
female presence throughout the hotel. Many guests have captured an apparition of
a phantom bride in their photographs during wedding events. So if you are ever
invited to a wedding here don’t forget to bring your camera. She also has been
seen near the dock wearing a white dress. People have also felt her sitting on
their beds and even pushing guests. Legend has it that this woman was buried alive
somewhere in the area.
1754 House-Woodbury
Once known as Curtis House Inn and Restaurant, this place
was built prior to 1736. The inn is believed to have been opened in 1754. Many
rooms in the inn is said to be haunted by a male spirit wearing 17-18th
century clothing. There is also another spirt wearing confederate clothing that
haunts the liquor room. The only female spirit that is known to the inn has
been said to disturb guests and visitors. The ghost of Joseph Hardesty who was
a former worker there is also said to haunt the inn. Strange music, ghostly
voices and disembodied footsteps have also been heard.
Blackberry River Inn- Norfolk
Built in 1763 as a farmhouse known as Moseley House-Farm. It
was used as a farm until the owner died in 1939. The house may have had ties to underground
railroad. An apparition of a white lady known as Francis has been seen
lingering on the second floor of this once home turned into a bed and
breakfast. She has also been seen heading into the empty part of the house in
the back. Many guests have a strong feeling of calmness when she appears.
Evergreen Inn & Tavern- Woodbury
This Inn was once featured on Gordon Ramsey’s “Hotel Hell”,
he was one of the many guests who have encountered the spirit that is
haunting this inn. Betty is said to be haunting room #16. The most common
reports are guests having their blankets either pulled off or tucked in tighter
during the night. It is most men who experience this. There is also reports of
a male apparition stamping into the room and removing his boots.
